About

Lower Karr Canyon Campground is a primitive tent-only campground situated in the Sacramento Mountains of Lincoln National Forest in southern New Mexico. The undeveloped campsites are scattered above and below the Karr Canyon Picnic Area, offering a rustic experience for tent campers seeking solitude in the high desert forest. The campground provides basic amenities including a vault toilet, fire rings, and picnic tables. Potable water is not available, so campers must bring their own water supply. All sites are walk-in only from the parking area, and RVs are prohibited within the campground. Access is via Forest Road 63 (Karr Canyon Road), a gravel road that can be rough in places. The road may close during winter months due to heavy snow. During fire season, Stage 1 fire restrictions may apply, limiting campfires to established fire rings only.

Directions

From the Village of High Rolls along US-82, turn south onto Forest Road 63 (Karr Canyon Road). Continue for approximately 5 miles; the campground will be on the right side of the road. Forest Road 63 is gravel and can be rough.
