About
Lower Karr Canyon Campground is an undeveloped camping area located in the Sacramento Ranger District of Lincoln National Forest. The campground features scattered tent sites positioned above and below the Karr Canyon Picnic Area, offering a primitive camping experience in the pine-covered Sacramento Mountains. This is a tent-only facility with no RV access within the campground itself. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table, with vault toilets available on-site. Campers must bring their own water as no potable water is provided. Sites are walk-in only, requiring campers to park along Forest Road 63 and walk to their chosen spot. Access is via Forest Road 63 (Karr Canyon Road), a gravel road that becomes dirt for the final mile. The road can be rough and is subject to seasonal closures during winter months due to heavy snow. The campground sits at approximately 8,000 feet elevation, providing cool temperatures and scenic mountain views. Located about 5 miles south of the Village of High Rolls off US Highway 82, this area offers opportunities for hiking, picnicking, and wildlife viewing in a peaceful forest setting.
Directions
From the Village of High Rolls along US Highway 82, turn south onto Forest Road 63 (Karr Canyon Road). Continue for approximately 5 miles; the campground will be on the right side of the road. The last mile is a dirt road.
