About
Joe T. Fallini Recreation Site sits on the western shore of Mackay Reservoir in the Big Lost River Valley, offering the only full-service RV camping in the BLM Challis Field Office. The campground features 26 campsites including 4 double sites, 4 walk-in tent sites, and 18 single sites with both back-in and pull-through configurations. Most sites include electric and water hookups, and the facility provides an RV dump station, restrooms, a boat ramp, and an interpretive trail.
The reservoir is stocked with rainbow trout and supports a self-sustaining kokanee population, making it popular for fishing year-round. Summer activities include boating, jet skiing, water skiing, and sailing, while winter draws ice fishing enthusiasts. The campground offers commanding views of the Lost River Range to the east, including Mt. McCaleb, and the Knob Mountains to the west. Wildlife viewing, star-gazing, and nature walks are popular activities. Nearby attractions include Borah Peak, Craters of the Moon National Monument, and the historic mining town of Mackay.
