The campground is currently closed for the season and opens May 15, 2026. The season runs through late September. Sites are available both first-come-first-served and by reservation through Recreation.gov.

* WHAT...Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Northwestern Clear Creek County in central Colorado... Central Summit County in central Colorado... South Central Grand County in north central Colorado... * WHEN...Until 730 PM MDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Rises in small streams and normally dry creeks. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 425 PM MDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This may cause small stream flooding. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Silverthorne, Berthoud Falls and Berthoud Pass.

About
Idlewild Campground is located in Arapaho National Forest at 9,000 feet elevation along the Fraser River, just one mile south of Winter Park on US Highway 40. The campground offers 26 non-electric sites that can accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs up to 30 feet in length. Each campsite is equipped with a tent pad, picnic table, metal fire grate, and bear-resistant food storage locker. A campground host is on site during the season. The campground provides vault toilets, trash service, and potable drinking water from a hand pump. There are no hookups, showers, or dump station facilities. The maximum stay is 14 consecutive nights, and each site can accommodate up to 8 people. Nearby trailheads and 4x4 roads provide access to the Vasquez Wilderness Area and the west side of historic Rollins Pass. The Fraser River Trail runs adjacent to the campground, offering a paved path for hiking and biking that connects to Winter Park and Fraser. Fishing opportunities are available in the Fraser River. Grocery shopping and restaurants are a short distance away in Winter Park and Fraser, and the Arapaho National Recreation Area and western portal of Rocky Mountain National Park are within an hour's drive.
Directions
From Winter Park, travel one mile south on US Highway 40. The campground is on the east side of the road.
