About
Heyburn State Park holds the distinction of being the oldest state park in the Pacific Northwest, established in 1908. Located in northern Idaho's Benewah County, the park encompasses scenic terrain along the shores of Chatcolet Lake and Benewah Lake. Three distinct campgrounds serve visitors: Hawley's Landing, Chatcolet, and Benewah Lake (first-come, first-served).
The park offers 129 overnight units comprising 72 standard campsites and 57 serviced sites, with one ADA-accessible campsite. Serviced sites feature electric hookups, with some providing full water, electric, and sewer connections. For those seeking more comfort, two cabins and two cottages are available year-round. The park provides comprehensive amenities including flush toilets, vault toilets, indoor showers, drinking water, dump station, and fire rings.
Equestrian campers will find dedicated sites with paddocks. The park also features a marina with boat ramps and moorage. Recent windstorms caused significant damage requiring active logging operations, and many trails remain closed with extensive downfall expected to persist until mid-to-late summer 2026.
