About

Tucked in the mountains of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Greenbrier Picnic Pavilion offers a peaceful and secluded setting for group gatherings in one of America's most visited national parks. Located at 1,750 feet elevation, the pavilion provides a moderate climate with mild winters and hot, humid summers, surrounded by the natural beauty that changes dramatically with the seasons from spring wildflowers to vibrant fall colors. The pavilion accommodates up to 70 guests and includes picnic tables, charcoal grills, vault toilets, and trash receptacles. While the facility provides basic amenities, visitors should note that no potable water is available on-site, so bringing adequate drinking water is essential. Pets are allowed in the picnic area but must be kept on a leash at all times and cannot be left unattended. The Greenbrier area serves as an excellent base for exploring the Smokies, with over 800 miles of maintained trails throughout the park, including nearby Ramsey Cascades Trail and Porters Creek Trail. The area's streams offer quality trout fishing opportunities (Tennessee or North Carolina fishing license required), and wildlife viewing is exceptional with approximately 1,500 black bears living in the park. Gatlinburg, located about 6 miles away, provides additional tourist amenities including restaurants, museums, and organized activities.

Directions

From Gatlinburg, proceed east on U.S. 321 North about 6 miles. Turn right (south) at the Greenbrier sign. The picnic pavilion is about 3.5 miles from U.S. 321.
