About

Cosby Group Camp offers a peaceful, secluded group camping experience in the less-trafficked Cosby area of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Located at 2,460 feet elevation beside Cosby Creek, the campground sits beneath a cool forest canopy perfect for warm-weather camping. The three group sites (GP01, GP02, GP03) each accommodate between 7 and 20 people with tent pads, fire rings with grills, and picnic tables. One site is ADA accessible. The area provides excellent access to the park's extensive trail system. The Appalachian Trail is just three miles away via the Lower Gap Trail, and numerous other hikes depart from the nearby Cosby Campground area. Trout fishing in Cosby Creek and wildlife viewing are popular activities, with approximately 1,500 black bears living in the park. This is a tents-only facility; RVs, trailers, and generators are prohibited. Only heat-treated firewood certified by the USDA or a state Department of Agriculture may be brought in, though campers can collect dead and down wood. Quiet hours are 10 PM to 6 AM. The town of Cosby is about five miles away with convenience stores and fuel, while Gatlinburg is approximately 20 miles distant.
