About
Golden Gate Canyon State Park's primary campground, Reverend's Ridge, sits amid aspen groves and pine forests in the Front Range foothills, providing convenient mountain camping within an hour of the Denver metro area. The 117-site campground features both standard tent sites and sites with electrical hookups, including a dedicated pull-through loop (Loop E) suitable for RVs and travel trailers. Amenities include flush toilets, hot showers, laundry facilities, and a dump station during the main season.
The park encompasses over 12,000 acres with elevations ranging from 7,600 to 10,400 feet, offering more than 35 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Popular activities include wildlife viewing for mule deer, elk, black bear, and mountain lions, as well as fishing in several stocked ponds. Each campsite includes a fire ring and picnic table, and the campground operates year-round with limited winter capacity when shower/laundry facilities and the dump station are closed.
Aspen Meadow campground provides additional seasonal camping typically from mid-May through late September. Backcountry tent sites offer a more primitive experience for those wanting to escape developed facilities. The park also features rustic camper cabins and yurts available year-round for those seeking a more sheltered experience.
