Located 30 miles west of Denver in the Rocky Mountain foothills, Golden Gate Canyon State Park spans 12,000 acres and offers diverse camping experiences year-round. The park features 117 campsites including full hookup sites at Reverend's Ridge Campground, tent-only sites at Aspen Meadows, and 20 backcountry tent sites plus 4 shelters accessible via 1.5-2 mile hikes. Cabins and yurts provide comfortable accommodations for up to six people with natural gas heat, electric lights, and mattresses. Reverend's Ridge Campground remains open year-round with electrical hookups available, while Aspen Meadows closes from late September through mid-May depending on weather. Two equestrian campsites accommodate horses with space for tethering or temporary corrals. The park offers 35 miles of trails for hiking, with some multi-use trails open to horseback riding. Winter visitors enjoy cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, though the camp office, showers, laundry facilities, and dump station close for the season. All camping requires advance reservations through cpwshop.com or by calling 1-800-244-5613. Maximum stay is 14 days within a 28-day period. The park operates with day use hours from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., and campers should note there is no cell or internet service throughout the park area.
