About

Gila Campground is one of three campground loops at Roper Lake State Park in Graham County, Arizona, situated 6 miles south of Safford at the base of Mt. Graham. The campground offers a more rustic lakeside camping experience compared to the park's electric sites. It features five non-electric individual campsites and a separate 14-site group camping area surrounding a large ramada with BBQ grills and a group fire ring. All individual sites include fire rings and picnic tables, with water available at most sites. The campground has vault toilets on-site and campers have access to a nearby restroom building with hot showers. The group camping area requires a 10-vehicle minimum and accommodates up to 14 campsites. When not reserved for group use, the area may be available for individual campers. Sites can accommodate various camping setups, from tent camping to RVs. Roper Lake State Park is known for its diverse birdwatching opportunities, seasonal fishing in the 32-acre lake, swimming beach, boat ramp, and proximity to Mt. Graham. The park also features natural hot springs. Park gates close nightly at 9 p.m., and the park is open year-round with daily hours from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
