About
Round The Mountain Horse Camp is located in the Pinaleño Mountains of Coronado National Forest, managed by the Safford Ranger District. The Pinaleño range is topped by 10,720-foot Mt. Graham, the highest peak in southern Arizona, and offers diverse ecosystems ranging from desert valley floors to alpine forests. The scenic Swift Trail (Highway 366) provides access into these mountains, connecting to various campgrounds, trails, and recreational opportunities. This horse camp serves equestrians exploring the extensive trail system in the area, including the Round the Mountain Trail #302 and other connecting routes suitable for horseback riding. The Coronado National Forest offers over 1,000 miles of trails, with many areas accommodating horses. Wildlife in the region includes white-tailed deer, black bears, mountain lions, and various bird species. The camp operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system. Campers should be prepared for variable mountain weather and should check seasonal road conditions, particularly during winter months when higher elevations may be inaccessible.
