* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...A portion of Southeast Arizona, including the following areas, Catalina and Rincon Mountains, Chiricahua Mountains, Dragoon and Mule and Huachuca and Santa Rita Mountains, Eastern Cochise County below 5000 feet, Galiuro and Pinaleno Mountains, South Central Pinal County, Southeast Pinal County, Tucson Metro Area, Upper Gila River Valley, Upper San Pedro River Valley and Upper Santa Cruz River Valley/Altar Valley. * WHEN...From 11 AM MST this morning through 11 PM MST this evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Low-water crossings may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Well above normal moisture levels for September are expected to result in scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rainfall today. Rain totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected with the stronger storms with isolated amounts over 2 inches possible. Areas that received substantial rainfall in the 48 to 72 hours will be more susceptible to flash flooding. About
Cottonwood Campground is one of three lakeside campgrounds at Roper Lake State Park, located six miles south of Safford in Graham County. The campground offers 25 back-in sites, each equipped with water and electric hookups supporting 20, 30, or 50 amp service. Every site includes a fire ring, picnic table, and individual shade ramada, making it comfortable for extended stays in the desert heat. The park provides modern amenities including two shower buildings with hot water at no extra charge for registered campers, flush restrooms that are ADA accessible, and a sewage dump station near the park entrance. A visitor center houses a small store selling fishing equipment, bait, souvenirs, and basic supplies. The fully fenced dog park accommodates campers traveling with pets. Roper Lake offers a natural swimming beach, fishing for bass, catfish, and trout, and non-motorized boating. The nearby Dankworth Pond provides additional fishing opportunities. Mt. Graham rises to the south, offering cooler temperatures and hiking within a short drive. The park operates year-round with gates closing at 9 p.m. nightly.

From Safford, take US-191 south for approximately 6 miles to East Roper Lake Road. Turn left and follow the road to the park entrance at 101 East Roper Lake Road, Safford, AZ 85546.
