About

Named after an 1860s military fort, Fort Ransom State Park encompasses 950 acres in the scenic Sheyenne River Valley of southeastern North Dakota. The park preserves the historic Bjone House and Andrew Sunne Farm, offering visitors a glimpse into homesteading life on the Northern Plains. The campground includes 60 sites with a mix of primitive and modern facilities. Electric hookup sites are available, along with equestrian campsites featuring corral access. Modern amenities include flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station. The park also offers unique overnight accommodations including two full-service yurts, the restored Bjone House, and a rustic Percheron Wagon. Fort Ransom is designated as one of North Dakota's horse parks, featuring 68 corrals and extensive equestrian trails. The non-motorized trail system covers over 20 miles in a series of loops through oak woodlands, mixed-grass prairie, and along the Sheyenne River. A segment of the North Country National Scenic Trail passes through the park. Winter activities include cross-country skiing and snowmobiling, with ski rentals available.
