About

Named after an 1860s military fort, Fort Ransom State Park occupies a prime location in the heavily wooded Sheyenne River Valley in southeastern North Dakota. The campground offers 24 modern horse campsites with electricity and corral access, 9 primitive horse campsites, 16 standard campsites with electricity and water hydrant access, 10 primitive campsites, plus group camping options for both modern and primitive configurations. The park features flush toilets, showers, and a sewage dump station near the visitor center. A playground and designated off-leash dog area are available. The Sheyenne River flows through the area, providing excellent opportunities for canoeing, fishing, and wildlife observation. During summer months, horseback riding and camping are the primary activities, while winter brings cross-country skiing. A segment of the North Country National Scenic Trail traverses the park, connecting to an extensive trail network. The park operates year-round, though limited services apply from October through spring when water systems and comfort stations are shut down.
