About

Experience elevated camping on Figueroa Mountain at this 35-site campground nestled among beautiful red manzanita, oaks, and pines at 3,300 feet elevation. Each fully-equipped site includes a fire ring, pedestal barbecue, and picnic table. Hard-packed soil and three double-vault wheelchair-accessible restrooms make several sites accessible. The campground accommodates RVs and trailers up to 25 feet, though no hookups are available. Figueroa Campground serves as an ideal base for exploring the area's trails, including the Davy Brown/Fir Canyon and Ballard Trails. A short drive takes you to Pino Alto Day Use Area with its nature trail, Cumbre Day Use Area, and the Figueroa Lookout offering majestic views of the San Rafael Wilderness. Spring brings magnificent wildflower displays across Figueroa Mountain, while migratory birds like the western tanager breed and raise young here through August. The campground is also popular with hunters during deer season from mid-August through September. Nights are often cold even during summer months, so bring warm layers. Hot summer weather brings gnats and deer flies, making insect repellent essential. Twenty-five sites operate on a reservation system through Recreation.gov, while nine sites remain first-come, first-served.
