About
Paradise Campground provides a peaceful retreat in California's westernmost national forest, located in the Santa Ynez Mountains at approximately 1,000 feet elevation. The campground features 15 sites nestled beneath a canopy of mature oak trees that provide ample shade and create a serene camping environment. Paved parking spurs accommodate most RVs, though high clearance vehicles are recommended for the access road. The Santa Ynez River runs adjacent to the campground and can be accessed through a tunnel beneath Paradise Road, offering opportunities for water-based recreation at the nearby White Rock Day-Use Area. Hikers can explore the 2.5-mile Aliso National Recreation Trail loop that begins near the campground, or tackle the more challenging 18-mile Santa Cruz Trail. The McPherson Peak Trail also originates from the campground. The area is popular with hunters in the fall season. Cachuma Lake Recreation Area, a no-body-contact reservoir located about 10 miles northwest, provides additional opportunities for boating, fishing, and kayaking. The lake is annually stocked with trout, and bass and carp are also common catches. The Camuesa OHV Route and connecting trails are available within 10 miles. Santa Barbara and the Pacific Ocean are approximately 18 miles away.
Directions
From Santa Barbara, take Highway 154 north for approximately 9 miles to Paradise Road. Turn right onto Paradise Road and continue to the campground entrance.
