About

Fayette Historic State Park Campground combines modern camping amenities with rich Upper Peninsula history and stunning Lake Michigan shoreline. The campground's 61 sites are distributed across three loops, each shaded by mature maple and cedar trees and offering small pathways leading directly to Big Bay de Noc. All sites include 20/30-amp electrical service, with pull-through sites upgraded to 20/30/50-amp service for larger rigs. The campground features modern restroom and shower buildings, a sanitation station, WiFi access, and recycling facilities. The park's location on Big Bay de Noc provides excellent fishing opportunities for perch, smallmouth bass, northern pike, walleye, and salmon. A boat launch is conveniently located between the campground and day-use area, while kayak and canoe rentals are available seasonally. The buoyed swim beach and picnic area are a short walk south of the campground. A major highlight is the adjacent Fayette Historic Townsite, a remarkably preserved iron-smelting community that operated from 1867 to 1891. Visitors can explore well-maintained 150-year-old buildings and learn about 19th-century industrial life through self-guided tours or guided tours offered during summer months. The park's 5 miles of hiking trails provide spectacular views from 90-foot limestone cliffs overlooking the harbor and Big Bay de Noc. The A. Gene Gazlay Visitor Center houses exhibits, a museum store, and concessions.
