About

Fairport State Recreation Area is a compact 17-acre campground situated on the Mississippi River near Muscatine, Iowa, offering 42 electric campsites with majestic river views. The campground provides modern amenities including restrooms with showers, electrical hookups at all sites, and a dump station. The location offers unparalleled access to the Mississippi River with two boat ramps and courtesy docks for loading and unloading boats, along with a fish cleaning station. The Mississippi River at this location is a popular fishing destination for walleye, catfish, and numerous other species. Campers can enjoy watching large towboats, recreational boaters, and abundant river wildlife including birds directly from their campsites. The campground also features a playground for families. The site is approximately 7 miles east of Muscatine and 6 miles from Wildcat Den State Park. Fairport operates as a 100% reservable campground, meaning advance reservations through the Iowa State Parks online reservation system are required. The campground closes for winter and reopens in mid-March, with water services typically resuming in early May. The recreation area provides an excellent base for visitors seeking easy access to river recreation and wildlife viewing along the Father of Waters.
