About
Located at 6,100 feet elevation in the Greenhorn Mountains of Sequoia National Forest, Evans Flat Campground is designed primarily for equestrian camping with 4 sites featuring fenced pastures and corrals for horses. The campground offers a total of 20 campsites and serves as a base for exploring the extensive network of roads and trails in the area, popular for horseback riding, OHV use, hiking, and hunting. Evans Flat operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system and no camping fees. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets and picnic tables at each site, but no potable water is available. Campers should bring adequate drinking water or be prepared to filter water from natural sources. The maximum RV length is 20 feet due to road conditions and site constraints. Accessed via Rancheria Road (County Road 465/Forest Road 25S15), the campground is approximately 45 miles northeast of Bakersfield. This remote location offers a quieter camping experience with moderate use levels. Campfire permits are required and can be obtained from the Kern River Ranger Station or online, though campfires may be prohibited during periods of high fire danger.
