About

East Lynn Lake Shelters provide four lakeside picnic pavilions situated along the northern tip of East Lynn Lake, a 1,005-acre U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir located 35 miles south of Huntington, West Virginia. These shelters are designed for day-use gatherings and can accommodate groups of up to 100 people each. Reservations are available Friday through Sunday only via Recreation.gov. Each shelter offers a unique setting along the 12-mile reservoir in the Ohio River Valley. Shelters 1 and 2 are positioned at scenic overlooks atop the dam and include nearby basketball courts and playgrounds. Shelter 3 sits in a more secluded creek-front location, while Shelter 4 is located directly on the lake with convenient access to a boat ramp. All shelters have electricity and are situated near grassy fields and recreational facilities. East Lynn Lake was constructed primarily for flood control but has become a popular outdoor recreation destination. The reservoir features both wake-permitted and no-wake zones, making it ideal for water skiing, boating, and fishing. Anglers can target 29 species of native West Virginia fish including musky, crappie, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and channel catfish. Bass tournaments are held April through October. The adjacent East Lynn Lake Wildlife Management Area encompasses 25,000 acres of public land for hunting, fishing, and hiking.

Directions

East Lynn Lake is 19 miles south of Wayne on State Route 37. Shelters are located at various recreation areas along the northern tip of the lake.
