About

Beech Fork Shelters consist of five reservable day-use group picnic areas at Beech Fork Lake, a 720-acre U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir located 7 miles south of Huntington in Wayne County, West Virginia. Two shelters sit close to the lake with panoramic views, while two others are positioned near a stream below the dam. The fifth site is an uncovered deck at Stower's Branch Swim Beach. Four of the shelters are covered and include electrical outlets for portable grills and other equipment, along with traditional charcoal grills. Each shelter area features playgrounds and horseshoe pits, with basketball and volleyball courts also available. The Spillway Trail is accessible from Shelters 1 and 2 for hiking. This is a day-use facility with check-in as early as 6:00 AM and checkout by 10:00 PM. There is no overnight camping at the shelters. The swimming beach charges a $5 access fee, which is waived for groups with shelter reservations. For overnight camping in the area, Beech Fork State Park is located on the eastern edge of the lake.
