About
Eagle Lake Cabin provides a remote wilderness experience in the Tongass National Forest, accessible only by float plane 44 air miles south of Wrangell, Alaska. The lake sits at approximately 300 feet elevation on the mainland south of Bradfield Canal and is recognized as a trophy cutthroat trout fishery. The 12-by-14 hunter-style cabin accommodates up to six people with two single and two double bunks. Amenities include a table, benches, wood stove, broom, and an adjacent outhouse. A bear-proof food storage locker is provided. Guests can use the provided skiff with oars for fishing, though personal flotation devices are required. Water is available from an adjacent stream but must be treated before use. The cabin sits on a gravel outwash overlooking Eagle Lake, surrounded by coastal rainforest of primarily Sitka spruce and western hemlock with scattered cedar. Steep hills provide a dramatic backdrop. The area supports populations of brown and black bears, and mountain goats may be observed on surrounding ridges. Fishing for cutthroat trout is productive from May through September. Hunting is permitted in designated seasons with proper permits.
