About
Eagle Lake Cabin offers a uniquely Alaskan wilderness experience at a remote fly-in-only lake located 44 air miles southeast of Wrangell. The 16' x 16' A-frame cabin with loft sits on a gravel outwash with views over Eagle Lake, surrounded by Sitka spruce and western hemlock rainforest with steep hills as a backdrop. The cabin accommodates up to 6 guests with two single and two double bunks, table and benches, wood stove for heating, and an outhouse. A wood shed with splitting maul is provided, though firewood itself must be brought by visitors. A bear-proof food storage locker keeps provisions secure. A skiff with oars is available for lake access, but guests must provide their own flotation devices. Eagle Lake is recognized as a trophy cutthroat trout fishery, with fishing available from May through September. Hunting is permitted in designated seasons with proper permits. The surrounding area provides habitat for brown and black bears, and mountain goats may be spotted on the ridges. Water is available from a nearby stream but must be treated before use.
Directions
Located on the east shore of Eagle Lake, approximately 1 mile from the lake outlet. Accessible only by float plane, 44 air miles southeast of Wrangell, Alaska. The lake sits at approximately 300 feet elevation on the mainland south of Bradfield Canal.
