About

Anchor Pass Cabin is a rustic USFS rental cabin tucked into a forested area on the mainland shore of Anchor Pass, directly across from the east end of Bell Island. Built in 1975, this 12x14-ft Pan Abode structure provides basic shelter for backcountry travelers exploring the remote waterways of southeastern Alaska. The cabin sleeps 4-6 people with two single bunks and two double bunks, and includes a wood-burning stove, cooking counter, table, shelves, cupboard space, and basic tools including an ax, maul, and splitting wedges. The front deck offers spectacular views of the mountains on northern Revillagigedo Island. A beach fronts the cabin but may be submerged at high tide. A mooring buoy is provided on a first-come, first-served basis but is not exclusive to cabin guests. Access is by floatplane or boat only from Ketchikan, approximately 50 air miles to the south. Wildlife in the area includes Sitka black-tailed deer, mountain goats, wolves, and both black and brown bears. The surrounding waters offer excellent saltwater fishing for halibut, rockfish, red snapper, and salmon, along with shrimping and crabbing opportunities. Note that some sport fishing restrictions may apply in areas close to the cabin. Sea kayaking is popular for exploring the area. Visitors should consult tide charts and be prepared for remote wilderness conditions with no services.
