About

Dutchman Flat Dispersed Campground is located within the Sawtooth National Recreation Area in Custer County, Idaho. This primitive camping area offers free dispersed camping opportunities for those seeking a backcountry experience without developed amenities. Campers must be completely self-sufficient and practice Leave No Trace principles. The Sawtooth National Recreation Area enforces specific occupancy limits for all camping within its boundaries. Dispersed campers are limited to 10 days in any 30-day period within a 30-mile radius throughout the SNRA. Campers must maintain distances of at least 150 feet from lakes and streams for washing and other activities. This area provides access to the spectacular scenery and recreational opportunities of the Sawtooth National Forest. As an undeveloped dispersed camping area, Dutchman Flat has no facilities, water, toilets, or services of any kind. Campers must bring all necessary supplies including water, pack out all trash, and be prepared for primitive conditions. The area is accessible depending on road and weather conditions, with winter access potentially limited by snow.

Directions

From Stanley, Idaho, drive east on Highway 75 for approximately 11 miles to the Sunbeam Dam overlook. The campground is located near the highway, adjacent to the Salmon River.
