Special Weather Statement issued May 24 at 2:21AM EDT by NWS Gray ME
* The warm air temperatures later this Holiday weekend in the mid 60s may cause people to underestimate the dangers of the cold water temperatures which are currently only in the mid 50s across Sebago Lake and Lake Winnipesaukee, and in the mid 50s in the regions smaller lakes and rivers. * The cold water temperatures can quickly cause hypothermia to anyone immersed in the water. When the water temperature is below 60 degrees, the average submerged person could loose dexterity within minutes and be unable to accomplish simple tasks. Anyone on small boats, canoes, or kayaks should plan accordingly if recreating this weekend and use extreme caution to avoid this threat. Paddle smart from the start and always wear your life jacket! * Winds will be breezy this afternoon with some gusts up to 25 mph across parts of the area. If boating on large bodies of water, these strong winds can increase the likelihood of overturning your boat, canoe, or kayak due to increased wave heights.
About
Dry River Campground sits in a quiet woodland setting within Crawford Notch State Park, one of New Hampshire's most scenic mountain passes. The 36 sites are spread among the trees between Route 302 and the Dry River, offering a peaceful base for exploring the White Mountains. Site types include standard campsites, tent-only sites, pop-up/tent sites, and three rustic lean-to shelters. The campground provides solid amenities for a state park facility: flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water, and a small laundry. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. There are no hookups, making this best suited for tent campers and self-contained RVs. Standard sites can accommodate vehicles up to 40 feet. The Dry River Trail departs just 0.3 miles north of the campground, providing a 9.6-mile backcountry route into the Presidential Range-Dry River Wilderness. Closer options include Arethusa Falls, Ripley Falls, and Mount Willard. The historic Willey House site and snack bar are nearby within the park.
Directions
From I-93, take Exit 36 onto Route 3 North. Follow Route 3 to Route 302 East and continue through Franconia Notch. The campground is located at 1464 US Route 302 in Hart's Location, within Crawford Notch State Park.
