About
Davidof Lake Cabin offers a true wilderness experience in the South Baranof Wilderness Area of Tongass National Forest. The 16x16-foot A-frame cabin sits in dense spruce and hemlock forest approximately 100 feet from the north shore of Davidof Lake, which stretches 1.2 miles long and half a mile wide at 650 feet elevation. The cabin sleeps up to 8 people in a sleeping loft accessed by vertical ladder, with plywood bunks, a wood stove for heat, a cooking counter, table and benches, and a skiff with oars for lake access. The surrounding wilderness offers excellent opportunities for fishing Dolly Varden from mid-July to September, with some rainbow trout also present. Deer hunting and berry picking for blueberries and huckleberries are popular activities. Brown bears frequent the area. A 1.2-mile trail on the southwest shore connects to Plotnikof Lake and Cabin, though it is unmaintained and difficult to locate. Access is exclusively by floatplane, approximately 35 minutes from Sitka, weather permitting. The site is best accessed from early June through October. Mountains rise to snowfields over 2,000 feet, providing dramatic scenery and solitude. The cabin receives minimal maintenance, and visitors should pack out all garbage and be prepared with their own firewood as supplies may be unavailable.
