About

Cranberry Campground is a popular semi-primitive campground situated along the Cranberry River in the Monongahela National Forest, providing direct access to the Cranberry Wilderness and backcountry. The campground features 28 single campsites and 2 double sites distributed across two loops, with each site equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, lantern post, and gravel parking spur. Most sites can accommodate trailers up to 40 feet in length. The campground experiences exceptionally high use during trout stocking periods from the beginning of spring through the end of June and again from September through October, when demand often exceeds available sites. During these peak times, campers may find alternative sites at the centrally located Bishop Knob Campground. The adjacent Cranberry River offers excellent trout fishing opportunities, though anglers must obtain a valid West Virginia State Fishing License along with National Forest, Conservation, and trout stamps. Amenities include two hand-pump water sources and three accessible vault toilets. No electricity is available, but generators are permitted between 6 am and 10 pm. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. A donation-based dump station is available on-site. The location provides easy access to hiking and backpacking trails in the adjacent Cranberry Wilderness, which was expanded by nearly 12,000 acres in 2009.
