About
Clear Lake State Park encompasses 290 acres along two-thirds of the shoreline of its namesake 133-acre spring-fed lake in Montmorency County. Known for its pristine, clear waters that reach depths of 90 feet, the lake offers excellent fishing for trout, splake, and smallmouth bass. The park's modern campground features 178 sites divided into upper and lower loops, shaded by oaks and pines with views of Clear Lake. Sites vary in size with several pull-through options available. The campground has its own designated swimming beach and boat access site. The park distinguishes itself as one of the few Michigan state parks that allows ORV operation between the campground and nearby trail systems. Riders can access the Atlanta ORV route and the Michigan Cross Country Cycle Trail directly from the park, with a dedicated ORV trailhead parking lot located across from the contact station. Additional overnight lodging includes an accessible mini cabin sleeping four and an Elk Tiny House near the boating access site with views of Clear Lake. Recreational amenities include a nine-hole disc golf course with a universally accessible gravel walking path connecting each hole, paddlesport rentals (canoes, kayaks, SUPs, rowboats), hiking and mountain biking trails, and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. The day-use area features a swim beach, boat launch with 50 parking spots, picnic shelter, playground, and picnic areas. Located in the Mackinaw State Forest, the park sits in Michigan's elk country where elk can often be seen and heard during early morning and evening hours, especially in spring and fall. Seasonal naturalists offer nature-based programming during summer and fall months.
