About
Clark State Forest, Indiana's oldest state forest at over 25,600 acres, offers primitive camping in the rugged knobs of southern Clark County. Two separate campgrounds serve different needs: the family campground east of I-65 provides 40 sites suited for tent and RV camping, while the equestrian campground west of I-65 offers 28 sites with hitching posts for visitors bringing horses. Both campgrounds operate on a first-come, first-served basis with self-registration at the entrance. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Pit toilets and seasonal drinking water are available throughout the camping areas. Campers share access to a modern comfort station featuring flush toilets, showers, sinks, and changing tables, along with a dump station that is free for registered campers. Beyond camping, the forest features seven lakes open to fishing with trolling motors only, an extensive trail system for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, and access to the Knobstone Trail for dispersed backcountry camping. Five rent-a-camp cabins are also available April through mid-November via Camp.IN.gov.
