Catherine Creek State Park

Closed — Closed for the season. The campground and day-use areas close October 19 and reopen in mid-spring, typically in April or May.

About

Catherine Creek State Park provides a cool, quiet escape in the canyon carved by Catherine Creek in the foothills of the Blue Mountains. The 168-acre park offers a classic Oregon camping experience with 20 first-come, first-served tent sites situated among towering ponderosa pines along the creek. The campground includes one ADA-accessible site, and all sites have parking that can accommodate self-contained vehicles. The creek itself is a major draw, offering opportunities to fish for rainbow trout or simply cool off in its icy waters. The waterway supports spawning populations of Chinook salmon and steelhead. Footbridges connect the campground to day-use areas and hiking trails that loop through the park on both sides of the creek, with restored riparian areas providing habitat and scenic beauty. The park is located about 8 miles from the town of Union and 15 minutes from La Grande. This is one of Oregon's quieter state parks, offering a peaceful setting for those seeking a less-crowded camping experience. The park operates seasonally from spring through mid-October, with flush toilets and potable water available during the operating season.
