About
Catherine Creek State Park is a peaceful retreat in the Blue Mountains of northeastern Oregon, where Catherine Creek has carved a scenic canyon through towering ponderosa pines. The campground provides 20 primitive tent sites arranged along the creek, each with parking that can accommodate self-contained RVs. Facilities include flush restrooms and water available nearby, with firewood for sale. The park operates entirely on a first-come, first-served basis, requiring campers to be physically present to claim a site. The creek itself is the main attraction, offering clear, cold water ideal for rainbow trout fishing and refreshing swimming on hot summer days. A 3-mile hiking trail allows visitors to explore the canyon and forest. Two reservable group picnic areas accommodate larger gatherings. The park also features horseshoe pits for recreation. Located in Union County between La Grande and Medical Springs, Catherine Creek provides a quieter alternative to more crowded state parks. The seasonal operation from May through early October means facilities including restrooms are closed outside the camping season.
