About
Boston Harbor Islands State Park provides a unique urban escape with camping on Peddocks Island, accessible by ferry from Hingham. The island offers both traditional tent sites that accommodate up to 4 adults or 2 adults with children, and yurts that sleep up to 6 people with electricity and bunk beds. Group sites are available for up to 30 people. All campsites include composting toilets and picnic tables, with charcoal grills and shade shelters within walking distance. The island features miles of hiking trails and scenic beaches with views of downtown Boston. Flush toilets, showers, and water refill stations are available at the Visitor Center, about a 10-minute walk from most campsites. Resident staff live on the island during the camping season to provide supervision and management. Campers access Peddocks Island via a 40-minute ferry ride from Hingham Shipyard, with free overnight parking available. The island operates on a carry-in, carry-out policy with no trash receptacles. Beach campfires are permitted below the high tide line but not at campsites. Private boaters can also access the island via mooring or anchor.
Directions
Ferry access from Hingham Shipyard. Free overnight parking available for campers. Arrive at least 30 minutes before ferry departure to register and transfer gear. Hingham Shipyard accessible via MBTA ferry from Boston or bus 220 from Quincy Center.
