About
Boston Harbor Islands State Park provides a rare opportunity to camp on an island just a short ferry ride from Boston. All camping takes place on Peddocks Island, one of the largest islands in the harbor, featuring a mix of forested trails, historic military structures, and scenic coastline. The island is accessible via a 40-minute ferry from Hingham Shipyard or by private boat with a mooring reservation.
Accommodations include individual tent sites for up to 4 adults, yurts with bunk beds and electricity for up to 6 people, and group sites accommodating up to 30. Campers must bring their own gear including tents. Amenities include composting toilets at campgrounds, flush toilets and two showers at the Visitor Center, drinking water stations, charcoal grills near most sites, and picnic tables.
The park operates under a carry-in, carry-out policy with no trash receptacles on the island. Campfires are prohibited at campsites but allowed on the beach below the high tide line if under three feet wide. Pets, alcohol, fireworks, and amplified sound are prohibited. Check-in is between 1-7pm and checkout is 11am.
