About
Bonney Meadows Campground is a small, remote Forest Service campground located at nearly 5,000 feet elevation on the east side of Mount Hood. Named after Augustus Bonney, a shepherd who once grazed his sheep in this subalpine area, the campground sits on a high ridge adjacent to beautiful meadows lined with single-track trails. This quiet campground features six campsites and horse corrals, making it particularly appealing to equestrians, though hikers and mountain bikers also enjoy the area. Campers can wake up and explore Bonney Meadows Trail #471 directly from the campground. The facility sees light usage throughout the season, providing a peaceful escape into nature. Access to the campground requires traveling on Forest Road 4891, an unimproved road that may require high clearance or four-wheel drive vehicles. The remote location and rustic character attract visitors seeking a true backcountry experience in the Mount Hood National Forest. Due to the high elevation, snow can persist into early summer and return in fall.
