About
River Road Park lies at the base of Clearwater Dam where the Black River begins its journey through the Ozark foothills. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the campground features over 100 campsites spread across several loops, with the majority offering 50-amp electric and water hookups on paved spurs. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, grill, and lantern pole. The setting is enhanced by spring blooms of redbud, dogwood, hawthorn, and wild plum along the shoreline bluffs. Bald eagles nest near the lake year-round. The Black River Hike and Bike Trail originates at the campground and connects to the Blue Heron and Bottomland interpretive trails, where hikers encounter wetland waterfowl, deer, fox, and geese. The river and lake provide excellent fishing, swimming, and canoeing. Nearby attractions include Sam A. Baker State Park, a historic Civil War site at Fort Benton, local golf courses, and traditional drive-in movie theaters.
Directions
From Piedmont, MO, follow State Highway HH for 6 miles. The campground is located just below Clearwater Lake Dam. Follow signs into the campground.
