About

River Road Park is nestled below Clearwater Lake Dam along the scenic Black River in Wayne County, Missouri. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the campground offers a peaceful riverside setting with excellent access to both lake and river recreation. The facility features over 90 campsites spread across multiple loops, with the majority offering electric and water hookups. The campground provides modern conveniences including hot showers, flush toilets, a dump station, and a playground. Three group picnic shelters with electricity are available for reservation. A boat ramp provides direct access to the Black River for fishing, swimming, and canoeing. The lake and river are known for excellent fishing opportunities for anglers of all skill levels. The Black River Hike and Bike Trail begins at River Road Park and connects with the Blue Heron and Bottomland interpretive trails, offering opportunities to observe wetland waterfowl, deer, fox, and geese. Bald eagles nest near the lake year-round. In spring, the landscape comes alive with flowering dogwoods, redbuds, hawthorns, and wild plums. The shoreline features picturesque bluffs covered with sweet william, indented bays, and serene coves. Nearby attractions include Sam A. Baker State Park, local golf courses, traditional drive-in theaters, and the historic Civil War site at Fort Benton.
