About
Bard Springs Recreation Area offers a rustic camping experience in the remote mountains of the Ouachita National Forest in Polk County, Arkansas. The campground features distinctive Adirondack-type shelters positioned along a small scenic stream, providing a tranquil setting for those seeking solitude in the forest. The area serves primarily as a base camp for hikers venturing into the nearby Caney Creek Wilderness, one of Arkansas's designated wilderness areas. Facilities are minimal and primitive, with vault toilets available but no potable water on site. Campers should come fully prepared and self-sufficient. The recreation area also includes a day use component with picnic facilities. Access requires taking Arkansas Highway 84 west from Glenwood, turning northwest on Highway 246 at Athens, then proceeding north on Forest Service Road 38 for 7 miles before turning east on Road 106 for half a mile.
