About

The Alpine Ranger Station is a historic cabin rental situated on the Alpine Plateau at 9,600 feet in a beautiful alpine valley surrounded by aspen, spruce, and fir forest. The facility offers two semi-rustic cabins with some modern amenities for a quiet retreat in a spectacular mountain setting. The main cabin features a semi-modernized kitchen with a propane cooking stove, refrigerator, and sink, along with solar electric lighting and a pot-belly wood stove for heat. It accommodates up to four people with two bunk beds. A second smaller cabin includes a queen bed and loft. Basic kitchen supplies are provided. A vault toilet is located in a separate bathhouse on the property. Visitors must bring their own water as none is available on site. The ranger station includes a horse barn and small corral for equestrian visitors. The Uncompahgre Wilderness is adjacent to the property, with the trailhead to Uncompahgre Peak just one mile away. Lake City is about an hour's drive and offers basic services. Access is via Forest Service Road 868, which is gravel with switchbacks that may be difficult when wet and may not be suitable for RVs or longer trailers.
