About

Oyster Point Campground is located on the banks of the Newport River within the 160,000-acre Croatan National Forest in eastern North Carolina. This small, peaceful campground offers 15 campsites nestled in coastal pine forest along the Intracoastal Waterway, providing easy access to saltwater fishing and paddling opportunities. The campground serves as the trailhead for the Neusiok Trail, a 21-mile hiking trail that meanders through diverse terrain including cypress swamps, loblolly pine forests, and vast bogs of thick vegetation. The Newport River, which flows 12 miles before opening into Bogue Sound, is popular with anglers and flatwater paddlers. A small hand-launch boat ramp accommodates canoes and kayaks, and paddlers can explore the Croatan Saltwater Trail that weaves between barrier islands and connects to the Neuse River via Adams Creek. The campground is conveniently located just a short drive from Newport and Morehead City, which offer full-service groceries, retail stores, and restaurants. Atlantic Beach and other coastal destinations are also easily accessible, making Oyster Point an ideal base camp for exploring North Carolina's Crystal Coast while enjoying the tranquility of the national forest.
