Pecos River Above Pecos affecting San Miguel County. * WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Pecos River above Pecos. * WHEN...From this morning to this evening. * IMPACTS...At 5.0 feet, Fast flowing water may erode banks and approach homes near the river. Private bridges could drive localized flooding as debris accumulates along the upstream sides. Further rises may make bridges unsafe to cross and isolate residents. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 7:00 AM MDT Wednesday the stage was 4.9 feet. - Bankfull stage is 5.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage late this morning to a crest of 5.1 feet this afternoon. In northeast New Mexico, Far Northeast Highlands, Johnson and Bartlett Mesas Including Raton Pass and Union County. * WHEN...Through this evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A near-record to record surge of moisture combined with a storm system moving across northern New Mexico will continue to bring numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rainfall. Combined with already rain-soaked soil, there is a moderate to high risk of flooding. - Low-lying, poorly drained, and/or urban areas will be most susceptible to flooding. Links Tract Campground, now officially known as Davis Willow Campground, provides free primitive dispersed camping in the Pecos Ranger District of Santa Fe National Forest. Situated at approximately 8,500 feet elevation in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the area offers solitude among mixed conifer forests near the upper Pecos River watershed. The campground is reached by traveling 16 miles north of Pecos on NM Highway 63, then one mile on Forest Road 646. Facilities are minimal: a single vault toilet serves the area, and a few fire pits are scattered throughout. No potable water is available, and campers must pack out all trash. Quiet hours are enforced from 10pm to 7am. A three-vehicle-per-site limit applies, and dogs must be leashed at all times. Horses and horse trailers are not permitted. The primitive nature of this site makes it best suited for tent camping and smaller camping setups rather than large RVs.
