Plenty Cutthroat Cabin sits at the west end of Orchard Lake on Revillagigedo Island, approximately 35 air miles from Ketchikan in the Tongass National Forest. Built in 1964, this rustic 12x12-ft Pan-Abode log cabin is surrounded by old-growth temperate rainforest of western red cedar, Sitka spruce, and western hemlock, with views across the lake to forested mountain peaks. The cabin accommodates six people with two single and two double bunks, and includes a wood stove for heating, a cooking counter with table, shelves and cupboard space, and a broom for cleanup. A 14-foot aluminum skiff with oars is provided for exploring the lake, though visitors must supply their own life jackets. Two outhouses serve the cabin. There is no electricity, potable water, or cell phone coverage. Fishing is the primary draw, with cutthroat trout and kokanee salmon in Orchard Lake. A trail from the cabin climbs through old-growth rainforest down to saltwater at Shrimp Bay, with a spur leading to an overlook of twin waterfalls spilling from the lake. The area supports Sitka black-tailed deer, black bear, wolf, beaver, and various bird species.

Directions

Approximately 35 air miles from Ketchikan at the west end of Orchard Lake on Revillagigedo Island. Accessible by float plane landing on the lake, or by boat with a mooring buoy in Klu Bay and a 1-mile hike from the Shrimp Bay trailhead.
