About
Handcart Campground offers a peaceful tent camping experience in Pike National Forest at 9,800 feet elevation. The campground is surrounded by lodgepole pine trees along the North Fork of the South Platte River, accessible via Park County Route 60 from US Highway 285 near the community of Webster. With only 10 campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis, this intimate campground provides a quiet mountain retreat. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, tent pad, and fire ring. The campground operates year-round but experiences seasonal service variations. Full services including water (hand pump), trash collection, and a camp host are available from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. During the extended season in fall, winter, and spring, the campground remains open but water, trash service, and hosts are not available, so campers must be self-sufficient. The tent-only restriction means no RVs or trailers are permitted. The campground enforces a maximum of 8 people, 2 tents, and 2 vehicles per site. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed at all times. The location provides access to the surrounding national forest for hiking and exploring, with Webster Pass and Red Cone Pass nearby. At nearly 10,000 feet elevation, weather can be unpredictable and winter conditions are common from late fall through spring.
Directions
From US Highway 285, turn north at the community of Webster onto Park County Route 60 going towards Red Cone and Webster Passes. The campground is located off Park County Route 60.
