About
Lost Corral Horse Camp provides direct access to two of Cherokee National Forest's premier equestrian trail systems: Starr Mountain and Chestnut Mountain Horse Trails. Located near Hiwassee River State Park in Polk County, Tennessee, the campground caters specifically to horse campers with high-line hitching areas at each of the 20 sites. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring, lantern post, and dedicated horse hitching area. Sites accommodate a maximum of five people and two vehicles. Vault toilet facilities are available, though potable water is not provided on-site, so campers must bring their own water supply. Bear country protocols apply: all food and beverages must be stored in approved bear-proof containers, locked vehicles, or hard-sided campers when not in active use. The campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis. No advance reservations are accepted. Upon arrival, campers can pay by scanning a QR code with the Recreation.gov mobile app, though downloading the app beforehand is recommended due to limited cellular service in the area.
