Windsor Dam
Closed — Permanently closed. Windsor Dam Campground was closed in 2019 and infrastructure has been removed. The area remains open for dispersed camping and general forest use, but no developed facilities are available. Nearby alternatives include Luna-White Deer Lake and Stevens Lake campgrounds.
Special Weather Statement issued January 19 at 3:30AM CST by NWS Green Bay WI
Light snow along with northwest winds gusting over 30 mph is resulting in some blowing and drifting snow in open areas. Visibility may be less than one mile at times. The blowing and drifting snow may also make roads slippery for the morning commute. If traveling this morning, be prepared for reduced visibility and slick roads at times, especially in more open and less forested areas. The gusty winds will begin to diminish by mid morning.

About
Windsor Dam Campground was a small, rustic campground managed by the U.S. Forest Service in the Eagle River-Florence Ranger District of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in Forest County, Wisconsin. The campground featured 8 campsites and provided basic amenities typical of USFS campgrounds in the area. In 2015, the campground was temporarily closed as part of cost-saving measures during a period of declining funding for national forests. After conducting a comprehensive review and gathering public feedback, the Forest Service released a Recreation Facility Strategy in May 2019 that made the closure permanent. Windsor Dam was one of seven developed campgrounds closed across the forest, resulting in the loss of 78 total campsites. The closures were based on factors including proximity to other recreation sites, maintenance costs, and anticipated user demand. Windsor Dam was located near other Forest Service campgrounds including Luna-White Deer Lake and Stevens Lake. As part of the permanent closure, the Forest Service has removed or is removing infrastructure such as picnic tables, fire rings, water pumps, and vault toilets. Barricades have been placed at entrances to allow the sites to revegetate. Once fully revegetated, the land remains public and open for general forest use including dispersed camping, fishing, hunting, and hiking, but without any developed facilities.
