Closed since 2015. The campground remains closed and is proposed for conversion to dispersed camping after infrastructure removal. No announced reopening date.

About

Windsor Dam Campground was a quiet, secluded camping area located along the North Branch of the Pine River within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The campground featured 8 primitive sites and was popular with anglers and hunters, offering good conditions for fishing, canoeing, and deer and grouse hunting in the surrounding northwoods. In 2015, the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest temporarily closed Windsor Dam along with 10 other campgrounds to reduce operational costs. While two of those campgrounds (Horseshoe Lake and Laurel Lake) have since reopened, Windsor Dam remains closed. The Forest Service's Recreation Site Analysis proposes converting Windsor Dam and six other closed campgrounds to general forest area, which would allow dispersed camping after existing infrastructure is removed. The area around Windsor Dam still offers opportunities for primitive dispersed camping on national forest land, though the developed campground facilities are no longer maintained or available.
