Spectacle Lake Campground

About

Spectacle Lake Campground occupies the east shore of the crystal-clear 166-acre Spectacle Lake in northern Wisconsin's Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest at an elevation of 1,770 feet. The campground's 34 sites are spread through a mixed species forest, with both lakeshore and off-lake options available. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with grill. Accessible vault toilets and potable water are provided throughout. The lake's highlight is a 500-foot sandy swim beach, one of the largest in the region. Boating is open to both motorized and non-motorized watercraft, and fishing yields walleye, largemouth and smallmouth bass, panfish, and trout. The 2.5-mile Spectacle-Kentuck Trail follows the old Thunder Lake Railroad bed to neighboring Kentuck Lake Campground, offering a pleasant forest hike. Site sizes accommodate vehicles up to 40 feet on most sites, though some are limited to 25-35 feet. Site 13 is tent-only. Maximum occupancy is 8 people and 4 vehicles per site. ATVs and UTVs are prohibited in the campground. Only firewood from within 25 miles or certified firewood is permitted.

Directions

From Eagle River, travel 7.6 miles to FR2178 (Military Road). Turn left (north) and continue 2.9 miles to Kentuck Lake Road (FR2465). Turn right (northeast) on FR2465 and continue 1.7 miles to FR2196. Turn left (north) and continue 2.2 miles to Spectacle Lake Road (FR2572). Turn right (east) and travel 1.2 miles to the campground.
