About

Sevenmile Lake Recreation Area is located in the Eagle River-Florence District of Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The site was formerly a developed campground with 27 campsites but was permanently closed in 2019 as part of a cost-saving initiative that closed seven campgrounds across the forest. Infrastructure such as picnic tables, fire rings, water pumps, and vault toilets has been removed from the former campground. Despite the campground closure, the recreation area remains open and accessible to the public for day use and various outdoor activities. The lake features a paved boat ramp suitable for motorized and non-motorized watercraft. Anglers can fish for walleye, largemouth and smallmouth bass, rock bass, perch, pumpkinseed, and bluegill year-round, including ice fishing in winter. The scenic 1.8-mile Sevenmile Trail loops around the lake, winding through bogs and along ridges with vistas of two lakes, featuring boardwalk sections through wet areas. The area has been returned to general forest use, meaning dispersed camping is permitted following national forest regulations, though no developed facilities or potable water are available. The recreation area connects to the larger Hidden Lakes Trail system and offers a quiet, rustic experience for those seeking fishing, paddling, hiking, and backcountry camping opportunities.
