About

Washington Creek Campground is a wilderness campground located along Washington Creek near the Windigo area on the southwest end of Isle Royale. The campground offers 10 individual shelters and additional tent sites, with a 3-night stay limit enforced from June 1 through September 17. Access is by foot via the Feldtmann Lake, Minong, and Greenstone Ridge Trails, or by canoe, kayak, or private boat. Boaters can dock at Windigo Dock and walk 0.3 miles to the campground. During the operating season, campers have access to the Windigo Visitor Center, Windigo Store, and Windigo Comfort Station. The campground features seasonal potable water, flush toilets, and hot coin-operated showers available through mid-September. Individual tent sites and shelters are first-come, first-served, while the 4 group tent sites require advance reservations. Only self-contained stoves are permitted; no campfires allowed. The terrain is uneven and rough throughout the campground, and facilities are not ADA accessible. New food storage guidelines are in effect to reduce human-wildlife interactions, particularly with wolves on the island.
