About

Ward Lake Campground occupies a scenic setting on Ward Lake at approximately 7,400 feet elevation in the High Sierra Ranger District of Sierra National Forest. The lakeside location provides opportunities for non-motorized boating, fishing, and swimming. Pine and aspen trees shade most campsites, and each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and bear box for food storage. This is a primitive campground with vault toilets but no potable water. Campers must bring all drinking water. The nearest supplies and groceries are available at Florence Lake Store, located three miles past the campground on Kaiser Pass Road. The remote location and winding mountain road access contribute to a quieter, more secluded camping experience compared to the busier campgrounds at Huntington Lake. Access requires navigating Kaiser Pass Road from Huntington Lake. The first 5.6 miles of Kaiser Pass Road typically opens around mid-May, with the remaining stretch opening Memorial Day weekend. The campground itself operates from June through September, weather permitting.

Directions

From Clovis, take Highway 168 east through Shaver Lake to Huntington Lake. At the east end of Huntington Lake, turn right on Kaiser Pass Road at the Eastwood Visitor Center. Travel 17 miles to Florence Lake Road, then continue 3.7 miles to the campground.
