About

Vermillion Campground occupies a prime location on the northwest shore of Edison Lake at approximately 7,700 feet elevation in the High Sierra. Set among Ponderosa pines, the 30 sites provide a mix of shade and spectacular views of the surrounding peaks. Each site is set back from the parking spur and equipped with a picnic table, campfire ring, and bear-proof food storage locker. Some sites are sloped and better suited for RVs than tents. Edison Lake offers excellent recreation opportunities including a free public boat launch, fishing for rainbow, brown, and brook trout, and sandy beaches for swimming. The Vermillion Valley Resort within walking distance provides limited supplies, pay showers, and ferry service across the lake to trailheads in the Ansel Adams Wilderness. Campfire programs are offered throughout summer. Access requires traveling Kaiser Pass Road, a narrow single-lane road with blind curves that is not recommended for large RVs. The maximum vehicle length is 25 feet. Vault toilets and potable water from hand-pump spigots are available on site, though boiling the water is recommended.

Directions

From Clovis, take Highway 168 east to Shaver Lake. Continue through Shaver Lake to Huntington Lake. At the east end of Huntington Lake, turn right on Kaiser Pass Road at Eastwood Visitor Center. Travel 17 miles to Edison Lake Road. Turn left toward Edison Lake and travel 7 miles to the campground.
