About
Jackass Meadow Campground is situated below Florence Lake on the San Joaquin River in a scenic high Sierra setting surrounded by the craggy peaks of the John Muir Wilderness. The campground sits in a stand of aspen and lodgepole pine with the South Fork of the San Joaquin running through the property. Each campsite has a table, fire ring, grill, and bear-proof food locker. The campground is located near several Native American archaeological sites and features a 0.7-mile accessible hiking trail. Most recreation opportunities center around Florence Lake, located half a mile away, where the Florence Lake Store offers boat rentals, supplies, groceries, and ferry service. A popular activity is taking the ferry from Florence Lake to access the John Muir Trail, which is part of the Pacific Crest Trail. Access is via Kaiser Pass Road, which includes both paved and dirt sections. The road is not recommended for large RVs, with a maximum vehicle length of 25 feet. Campers should bring mosquito repellent and note that campfire wood can be purchased from the campground host.
Directions
