About

Wailaki Campground is a peaceful retreat in the southern portion of the King Range National Conservation Area, offering 13 campsites surrounded by towering old growth firs and native flora. The campground is ideal for those seeking solitude and access to some of California's most remote coastal wilderness. Bear Creek flows through the campground, though all water must be treated before drinking as there is no potable water available. The campground serves as an important trailhead for hikers exploring the Southern Lost Coast Trail via the Chemise Mountain Trail, as well as the Bear Creek Nature Trail. Campsites include fire rings, picnic tables, vault toilets, and bear-proof trash cans. A group site is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Located just 2 miles south of Shelter Cove Road on Chemise Mountain Road, the campground is accessible yet remote. Campers should be aware of weather conditions and potential hazards from falling branches or dead trees during high winds. No hookups or RV facilities are available, making this a destination best suited for tent camping or self-contained units.

Directions
