About

Wailaki Campground offers a peaceful retreat in the King Range National Conservation Area, California's first National Conservation Area. The campground sits among towering old-growth Douglas firs with Bear Creek running through the property, creating a lush, forested atmosphere ideal for those seeking solitude away from coastal crowds. The 13 campsites include wheelchair-accessible facilities and a group site, all available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each site features a fire ring, picnic table, and access to vault toilets and bear-proof trash containers. Campers must bring their own drinking water as there is no potable water on site. Bear Creek water must be treated before consumption. The campground serves as a trailhead for the Bear Creek Nature Trail and an alternative starting point for the Chemise Mountain Trail, which connects to the legendary Lost Coast Trail and Sinkyone Wilderness. The location just off Shelter Cove Road makes it convenient for resupply trips to the nearby town of Shelter Cove.

Directions

From U.S. 101, take the Redway exit. Head west 22 miles on Briceland/Shelter Cove Road, then south 2 miles on Chemise Mountain Road to the campground.
