Open year-round with no fee. Only maintained during hunting season. Campers should expect very primitive conditions.
About
Turkey Trot Hunter Camp is a very primitive camping area located within the Caney Ranger District of Kisatchie National Forest in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. As a designated hunter's camp, it primarily serves hunters during Louisiana's various hunting seasons but remains open year-round and welcomes all visitors. The camp offers an extremely rustic experience with minimal facilities. There is no potable water and no picnic tables, so campers must come fully prepared and self-sufficient. Maintenance is limited to hunting season only, so conditions may be more rugged during other times of year. This free camping area is ideal for hunters or those seeking a backcountry-style experience without developed amenities. The surrounding Kisatchie National Forest provides opportunities for hunting and shooting sports.
Directions
Travel northeast on Louisiana Highway 9 to Forest Road 940 and turn left (northwest), then go north onto Forest Road 910. Turkey Trot Camp is on the east side of the road.
