Bucktail Camp

Open — Open year-round, first-come, first-served with no fees. The campground is only maintained during hunting season but remains accessible to all visitors.

About

Located in the Middle Fork Unit of the Caney Ranger District within Kisatchie National Forest, Bucktail Camp is one of two designated hunter's camps in the area. This primitive facility caters primarily to hunters but welcomes all visitors year-round. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system and no camping fees. Visitors should expect very primitive conditions at Bucktail Camp. While the facility is maintained during hunting season, off-season maintenance is minimal. The campground provides potable water but lacks picnic tables and many standard amenities found at developed campgrounds. The setting offers a true back-to-basics camping experience in the piney forests of north-central Louisiana. The camp serves as a convenient base for hunters accessing the surrounding national forest lands, as well as for campers seeking a rustic, no-frills experience in a remote forest setting. Visitors should come prepared with all necessary supplies and equipment for primitive camping conditions.
