Trinidad Lake State Park

Open — Open year-round. Carpios Ridge sites 1-23, 62, and 63 are available for winter camping with electricity. South Shore Campground is closed for the season and reopens May 1, 2026. Full hookup water service is turned off November 15 through April 15. Maximum stay is 14 days within a 28-day period.

Trinidad Lake State Park is nestled in the foothills of southern Colorado near the historic Santa Fe Trail and scenic Highway of Legends. The park offers 73 campsites divided between two campgrounds with views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Carpios Ridge Campground operates year-round with electrical service at every site, while sites 1-4, 6, 62, and 63 provide full hookups from mid-April to mid-November. South Shore Campground features ten accessible campsites and operates seasonally from May through mid-October. The park provides modern amenities including a camper services building with showers, laundry facilities, and flush toilets open from mid-March through mid-October. During winter, family restrooms remain accessible. Water hydrants are positioned throughout the campgrounds, though some are winterized during colder months. A dump station is available on-site. The park entrance is open daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., making it an ideal base camp for exploring the area's 10+ miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, fishing the lake, or visiting nearby Trinidad's historic attractions.
