Crescent Lake Campground occupies a scenic peninsula extending into Crescent Lake, an undeveloped body of water entirely surrounded by Superior National Forest in northeastern Minnesota. The 33 sites wind along the shoreline, with many offering direct lake views or water access. The heavily wooded setting features white and red pines, spruce, balsam, birch, and aspen, with abundant wildlife including moose, black bear, bald eagles, and loons. Facilities include vault toilets, solar-powered potable water faucets, picnic tables, and campfire grates at each site. An accessible fishing pier provides opportunities to catch walleye, northern pike, and muskie. A boat ramp on the northwest side accommodates motorized boats with no horsepower restrictions, though the lake is best suited for small fishing boats. Sites are pull-in and not specifically designed for RVs. The campground serves as a gateway to Superior National Forest's extensive recreational opportunities. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness lies nearby, offering over 1,200 miles of canoe routes. Sawbill Canoe Outfitters, 13 miles away, provides showers, laundry, supplies, and canoe rentals.

Directions

From Tofte on Highway 61 along Lake Superior's north shore, turn north onto Sawbill Trail (Cook County Road 2). Follow Sawbill Trail for 16 miles to the intersection with Forest Road 170 (The Grade) at the stop sign. Turn right onto FR 170 and proceed east approximately 8 miles to the campground entrance on the right.
