Stratton Brook Picnic Shelter

Open

This is a day-use picnic shelter, not an overnight campground. The shelter is available for rental from 8:00 a.m. to one half-hour before sunset, Memorial Day through Columbus Day. All guests must depart before sunset; no overnight stays are permitted.

About

The Stratton Brook Picnic Shelter is a historic pavilion within Stratton Brook State Park, originally constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935. Known as the Massacoe Forest Pavilion, this structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 and serves as a rentable day-use facility for group gatherings, picnics, and cookouts. The shelter measures 24 x 40 feet and can accommodate up to 60 people. It includes 8 picnic tables and 2 grills, though there is no electricity or running water inside the pavilion. Restrooms are located approximately 500 feet away, with parking 250 feet from the shelter and beach access 150 feet away. Stratton Brook State Park itself became Connecticut's first completely wheelchair-accessible state park in 1996. The park offers swimming, fishing, hiking, cycling, and interpretive programs at its Nature Center. The picnic shelter is available for rental from Memorial Day through Columbus Day.
